AWS EBS Volume Size
Why Use This Policy
This policy ensures that your AWS Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes remain efficiently sized to avoid unnecessary costs. Large EBS volumes are uncommon and expensive and may indicate improper resource allocation.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Helps in identifying and managing cost overheads due to large EBS volumes.
- Provides clear visibility into resource utilization.
Cons:
- Might generate frequent alerts if many volumes are larger than the specified threshold.
How the Policy Works
This policy scans specific EBS volumes in the AWS account to determine their sizes. If the size exceeds the specified threshold (default is 100 GB), the policy flags it for review.
Variables
- ebs_volume_max_size_gb: The maximum allowed size for EBS volumes, in GB. Default is 100 GB.
Violation Type IDs
- EBS_VOLUME_HIGH_SIZE: This violation is triggered when the EBS volume size exceeds the specified threshold.
